Margam Country Park

If you’re looking for a fun family day out, then Margam Country Park, set in 1,000 acres of parkland, certainly fits the bill.

For history lovers the impressive Margam Castle is a great backdrop to any photograph but inside the Castle you will find a spooky stone staircase which gives you a hint of what life was once like for the inhabitants of the grand estate. Travel back in time walking through the ruins of the 12th Century Margam Abbey and meander alongside the 18th Century restored Orangery which is now a popular wedding venue.

Young families will love Fairytale Land, complete with child sized cottages and a castle, not to mention the two well equipped playgrounds which will entertain even the busiest little adventure seeker. The Farm Trail, home to Margam Park’s furry (and feathered) residents, is a must see for kids who love animals.

For adventure seekers Margam Country Park is also home to Go Ape! tree top adventure centre where you can slide down from the tree tops on a 167 metre zip wire. Margam Park Adventure offers a range of outdoor activities including pedal powered go carting, cycling, canoeing, mountain-biking and much more, all great ways to see this historic parkland from a different angle.

Margam Park is generally just a great place to visit for a quiet walk in ornamental gardens or over the more rugged hilly landscape, a summary of the walks at Margam is available on the Margam Park website, you can also purchase a walking pack when you arrive at the Park.

Margam Country Park has an extensive events programme throughout the year and the Margam Park Volunteers run a range of guided walks which will help you to discover the history and landscape of this unique estate.
